The diversity of nervous system function arises from precise organization of intricate neuronal circuit arrays that are established during development. To elucidate fundamental mechanisms underlying key neurodevelopmental events, UVA NGP employs an integrated approach combining molecular, genetic, cellular and in vivo studies with state-of-the-art imaging and analytical techniques. By exploring both invertebrate and vertebrate model systems, we gain mechanistic insights into not only how the nervous system is assembled during development but also how its disassembled during pathology.
