Research in NGP labs isn’t just about collecting data. We are proud to share the science we love with the Charlottesville community, and to inspire the next generation of great scientists. Every spring, NGP students participate in Brain Awareness Week, an outreach program sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience. NGP students visit local K-12 classrooms to excite local students with brain activities! We even bring real human brains and some animal brain specimens for show and tell. Resources such as Power Point presentations, fun brain facts, lesson plans, and worksheets are available upon inquiry . Teachers say:

The Neuroscience Graduate Program is also partnering with nonprofit Science Delivered! Science Delivered was founded by NGP alum Dr. Olivia Mullins and is run in Charlottesville by current NGP students Taylor Welsh and Kelly Barford. Throughout the year, Science Delivered brings fun, hands-on science learning to local students through in-class labs, special events, and afterschool programs. They will be working with NGP students to hone their skills communicating science with non-scientists. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, Science Delivered and the Neuroscience Graduate Program will be working together to bring immersive research experiences to high school students interested in science careers .
